Basic Guidelines and Recommendations |

TutorJapan.com offers tutors and learners opportunities to develop their skills and expand their capability lightheartedly.
However, to get a reward means to act professionally. Naturally, tutors should have substantial responsibility and consciousness as an independent teacher regardless of their fields and experience.
Tutors make a contract directly with learners, however, we post guidelines as follows from the point of view mentioned above in order for both tutors and learners to advance tutoring with an easy mind. So make a contract along the following guidelines as much as possible.
Basic Attitudes:
Be punctual (Very basic aspect of tutoring. Arrive with time to spare.) Treat each other with respect (To your tutor as your director, to your student as your customer) Tutors should dress appropriately for tutoring and for TPO. Learners should dress appropriately for learning intensively.
Place and Expense
Tutoring is conducted at home of tutors or learners, at caf?, etc. In some fields of tutoring, you may rent some space for tutoring. <In order to save money other than lesson fees, we recommend following rules.> Tea or coffee money should be paid each. You don't have to serve tea or coffee at home. Learners take charge of reserving or renting space for tutoring if needed. (In case the tutoring cannot be conducted due to disasters or accidents, the expenses already cost should be paid by all the people concerned including the tutor equally.)
Material
Learners pay the (actual) cost of material such as textbooks needed. Material needed to teach should be bought by tutors.
Hourly Fees
Basically, the fees should be counted hourly. The amount of hourly fees varies from about 1,500 to more than 7,000 yen depending on the fields, experience, and qualifications. Average hourly fee goes to around 2,500 yen. For details, our "Standard Table of Hourly Fees" can be referred by Learners and Premium Tutors.
The hourly fees of OT (Online Tutors) should be 80% of those of in-person tutors. The hourly fees of ET (E-mail Tutors) should be decided based on the frequency, the amount of communications (by words), and the actual hours spent, while referring the standard table of hourly fees.
Payment and receipt of fees
As a rule, the fee should be paid at the time of each lesson (before starting the lesson) in cash. If the tutor gives lessons continuously, and regularly, the fee can be paid monthly in cash or through bank remittance. Only Online Tutors and E-mail Tutors should receive fees just after each lesson (within two days). We recommend that the payment regarding online tutoring should be conducted through ONLINE BANKING for prompt remittance and confirmation. (SHINSEI BANK provide full online banking in English.). If payment of the fee is delayed, 10% of the fee is added as a late fee unless the learner pays the fee within two days of the lesson day.
Sudden change and cancellation
Learners can change the schedule or cancel the lesson in case they tell their tutor about it by two days ahead of the day of the lesson without additional payment. But if they tell their tutor about it on the preceding day, they need to pay 10% of the lesson fee as substitution fee or 40 % of the lesson fee as cancellation fee. If they tell their tutor about it on the very day, they need to pay 20% of the lesson fee as substitution fee or 70 % of the lesson fee as cancellation fee. If learners cancel the lesson without any notification, they need to pay the full lesson fee plus 20% of the lesson fee as penalty charge.
Lesson fee in case of plural students
1. Each student shall pay the following fee. If there are two students: 60% of the fee If there are three students: 50% of the fee 2. Mass education The fee shall be set per one whole lesson.
Transportation fee
Learners pay actual transportation fee needed.
Demo lesson
Before making a contract, Tutor shall conduct a demo lesson. The demo lesson takes 30 - 40 minutes and costs 1,000yen Learner can ask for demo lesson just once. Transportation fee for this demo lesson shall be paid each by Tutor and Learner. On the day of the demo lesson Tutor and Learner confirm the terms of teaching contract after the demo lesson. (The terms of contract shall be proposed by Tutor.) Premium Tutor can prepare a contract easily by utilizing "Contract Template".
Receipt of payment
Tutor prepares receipt paper. Tutors can use a receipt form from Receipt Templates. You also can print out a receipt sheet from Receipt Templates which you can paste on an envelope for fee payment.
